When it comes to healing addons and raid frame packages, Vuhdo takes the cake for the best available. While some people would argue that Grid is better, it just doesn't have the same amount of sheer customization that Vuhdo offers. Vuhdo also offers built in click bindings, like those that you would find in healbot. This eliminates the need for a companion mod such as clique, but if you want to use it anyways, Vuhdo still offers support for that as well. This kind of flexibility and the fact that you only need Vuhdo itself and not any extra little plug ins are why it has been at the forefront of my interface since shortly after it's release. However, it can be kind of complex to set up, and I often get asked question from other healers about it's configuration, so I wanted to make this post, and the following videos, to help alleviate some of the stress of dealing with a new addon.

| My Vuhdo set up, one of many options |
I have over 30 minutes of video here, and for the new user, I would recommend checking out all of it. It's a large mod. However, if you're just looking for one specific feature, I'm going to include time markers for when I talk about different things. This should help with navigation a bit.
Part 1: Cosmetics
(Note: I highly recommend watching these in HD. It will make the menus a great deal easier to see.)
Video on Youtube
This first video focuses primarily on the look and feel of your raid frames. It's important to have everything displayed in a way that makes sense to you, so this goes over some of the basic cosmetic options, and should give you a good sense of how to tweak things further or differently to fit your own style.
Contents - Part 1
00:40-02:00 - Movement. This is just how to move your frames where you want them to go.
02:23-03:00 - Class colors. How to change name text color to reflect class colors.
03:01-04:15 - Name and HP text display.
04:16-04:50 - Headers/labels. How to get rid of the unsightly header labels.
04:55-06:25 - Ordering. Options that affect group sorting.
06:30-07:00 - Sizing and scaling
07:01-7:32 - Bar size. How to configure sizing and background of individual bars.
07:35-07:51 - Targets. Enabling and disabling display of targets.
07:52-09:45 - HoT display. Both HoT bars and HoT icons.
09:46-10:20 - Raid icon display. I only cover actual icons, you can also configure the whole bar to change color with an option listed under the colors tab.
10:20-10:45 - Overheal text.
10:47-11:05 - Getting rid of backgrounds and borders behind the raid frames.
11:05-11:20 - The "apply all" button, and selecting different panels.
11:20-End - Using separate panels: main tanks, main assist, etc. Also how to get rid of extra panels, and Vuhdo's simple drag and drop setup.
Part 2: Spell Bindings, Debuff Display
(Again, I highly recommend watching in at least 720p.)
Video on Youtube
The second video explains the features that make Vuhdo more than just raid frames. This video explains how to bind abilities in Vuhdo, through both mouseovers, and click bindings.
Video Addendum - Binding macros
One thing this video does not explain well enough is how to set up a macro to be bound to a spell, so I want to touch on that here. If you have a macro created, such as a nature's swiftness + healing touch macro on a druid for an instant cast healing touch, it's really easy to get Vuhdo to accept and use your macro. When you are creating your macro, simply specify the target as Vuhdo. Here is an example for the same macro I was talking about above.
First, name your macro. In this case, let's name it "Instant HT". Next, we need to actually make the macro. Use this text:
Then, instead of typing in a spell name under the Vuhdo bindings, type in the name of the macro, in this case, you would type "Instant HT". That's all there is to it!
#showtooltip Nature's Swiftness
/cast Nature's Swiftness
/cast [target=vuhdo] Healing Touch
Contents - Part 2
00:20-02:01 - Click binding.
02:10-2:55 - Mouse-over bindings.
02:56-04:35 - Trinket auto-triggering.
04:36-05:25 - Smart cast. Out of combat auto cleansing, in combat auto rezzing, etc.
05:25-06:10 - Dual spec layouts. How to set up different bindings for different specs.
06:10-06:45 - Macros, see above for a better explanation.
06:45-07:40 - Debuff Display.
07:40-08:25 - Range arrow, what it does.
08:25-09:51 - Buff watcher.
10:15-END - Debuff display and configuration. How to add and remove new debuffs.
Part 3: Advanced: Clusters and Bouquets
(And again, I highly recommend watching in at least 720p.)
Video on Youtube
These features seal the deal for me. They add unparalleled customization to Vuhdo, as it really lets you show whatever you want, however you want. The cluster scanner and cluster mouse over options will allow you to make sure your chain heal never hits only one target again, or to squeeze out that extra wild growth target every time via range monitoring. There's 2 ways to use it, and I'm showing both. Bouquets on the other hand, are pretty much limitless. If you want to show it, you pretty much can, and anywhere on the mod you want from something as subtle as a mana bar color change, to a border, to changing the whole bar.
Contents - Part 3
00:50-04:13 - Cluster mouse over - this is the cluster finder, and I show how to highlight borders with it. This used to be the only option Vuhdo had for the cluster finder, and after it changed it took me awhile to figure out how to do it again, so I wanted to showcase it.
04:15-4:55 - Cluster scanner. A different way to show it, more visual, with numbers. This is where the "good" and "fair" threshold options come into play.
04:55-05:25 - Clusters continued. How to use them for different spells.
05:25-END - Bouquets. This is an extremely flexible tool, so I just give a very basic example: How to use it to show tank and healer cooldowns so you don't overlap them. This is something I think most healers should have showing on their raid frames in progression content. It's helped me immensely.
So I hop this helped some people figure out this wonderful mod. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask them in a comment, or e-mail me and I'll do my best to help you out. Enjoy!

Hey man, Thanks a lot for making this really great and specific guide. It has been extremely helpful!!!
ReplyDeleteAunna, I just linked this page on the Plus Heal fora, under the VuhDo section on the post where it's listed the guides and videos for VuhDo
ReplyDeleteOnly after posting it there I realized I should have asked your permission first. If you want I can delete it. If you don't mind the extra traffic to your blog I'll let it stand.
Totally fine, I never mind a little link love. The guides are here to help folks out so accessibility is always good.
ReplyDeletehey i was doing exactly like you said about cluster and i started to get errors and now i can turn it off it keeps say there is nil value there yet the only spell i have that would work for clusters is holy radiance.
ReplyDeleteI really owe you a beer for this guide!
ReplyDeleteThe guide has helped me alot. Just trying out Vuhdo this week. However, I have a Razer Naga mouse that I just got today. It looks like Vuhdo can accomodate that many mouse buttons, but I can only get my first 5 to work properly. Is there a trick to it?
ReplyDeleteThere ain't no trick to it. Windows only supports up to 5 mouse buttons, there is no software that makes you able to use the other buttons as mouse buttons as well. You can however make macros for the keypad 1-12 on your mouse.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking everywhere and can't find an answer. The Spell tab on my Vuhdo has disappeared, there is just a blank space there. I NEED IT, how do I get it back?
ReplyDeleteVoracie/The Venture Co/US
If you have click enabled it will over ride Vuhdo and you won't have your spell tab.
Delete^^^ happened to me too
ReplyDeleteWhat are you using for that UI. I love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat addon and amazing guide, thank you very much you saved me so much time playing around with it.
ReplyDeleteI am just getting started with Vuhdo and appreciate your putting together this guide. thanks On the buff setup screen there is a place to apply to "on player name". Can this be set to focus so I can automatically set it at the beginiing of the group just by setting my focus on my tanke or whoever?
ReplyDeleteThanks

firstly ty linked to all my raid buddies on facebook! 2nd'ly - you don't have to type in spells whihc is what sets vuhdo apart from healbot you simply drag the spell from your sepll book into vuhdo itself to make it easier for those of us who can't type for toffee:p And if possible could you help an old friend out we can't find the vuhdo option to move the new raid roles icon its currently fixed to the top left corner of every box and sometimes shows and sometimes doesn't - either way lovely to see who's a healer whos a tank but still annoying if we have buffs settup for that corner. Oh and btw I find personally that having target and target of target up particularly for 10 man raiding when it matters instead of lfr helpful to predict if a boss has focused on a member of the team breaifly as this indicated the boss casing a spell onto that target or possibly a special attack or charge - very useful would recomend.:D
ReplyDeleteWhen Vuhdo works, it works well...but it has gone haywire on me several times causing me to have to delete the WTF file and install a fresh version of the add on. This time, regardless of deleting other add ons to ensure there is no conflict, deleting the WTF file, AND installing a fresh version of Vuhdo, I can't get it to set up properly. The spells work fine, but the bars are only showing up black, so they can't be discerned from the background. I have the option color bar by class chosen, and have even tried to just get the bars to their generic out of the box green color but nothing is working. Any help would be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome! Fantastic guide, I really appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteI was ready to rip my hair out... had to reinstall vuhdo and start from scratch. This was the best guide I've found by far. Thank you bigtime!
